1. Introduction

TradersCompanion ("we", "our", "us") is an online trading journal and performance analytics platform operated by Jaimy Mathon, based in the Netherlands. We are committed to protecting your personal data and processing it transparently, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Dutch Implementation Act (UAVG).

This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and what rights you have regarding your data.

3. Data We Collect

We collect only the data necessary to provide our service:

• Account data — your email address and password (stored hashed), used to authenticate your account.
• Profile data — optional display name and preferences you set within the platform.
• Trade data — trades you import or enter manually (instrument, direction, entry/exit, size, notes, screenshots). This data is yours and we treat it as strictly confidential.
• Usage data — anonymised analytics to understand how features are used (page views, interactions). We do not track individual user sessions across sites.
• Technical data — IP address, browser type, and device type, collected in server logs for security and debugging purposes. Logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days.

We do not collect payment card details. Payments are processed by Stripe or PayPal, who handle card data under their own privacy policies.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

• Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) — to provide you with the TradersCompanion service.
• Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — for security logging and platform improvement.
• Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) — for newsletter subscriptions (you can withdraw at any time).
• Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR) — to comply with Dutch tax and other legal requirements.

5. How We Use Your Data

• To operate and improve the TradersCompanion platform.
• To calculate your trading metrics, analytics, and journal entries.
• To send you product updates and notifications (only if you opted in).
• To respond to support requests.
• To comply with legal obligations and prevent fraud.

We never sell your personal data or trading data to third parties. We do not use your trade history for any purpose other than powering your own analytics.

6. Data Sharing

We share data with a minimal number of processors, all operating under GDPR-compliant data processing agreements:

• Hosting provider — for database and server infrastructure (EU-based data centers).
• Stripe / PayPal — for payment processing when you subscribe to a paid plan.
• Email provider — to send transactional emails (account confirmations, password resets).

We do not share data with advertising networks, data brokers, or analytics aggregators.

7. Data Retention

• Account and trade data is retained for as long as your account is active.
• Upon account deletion, your personal data and trade data are permanently deleted within 30 days.
• Server logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days.
• Backup copies may persist for up to 90 days after deletion, after which they are permanently purged.

8. Your Rights (GDPR)

As a resident of the EU/EEA, you have the following rights:

• Right of access — you can request a copy of the data we hold about you.
• Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct inaccurate data.
• Right to erasure — you can request deletion of your account and all associated data.
• Right to data portability — you can export your trade data at any time from within the application.
• Right to object — you can object to processing based on legitimate interest.
• Right to withdraw consent — for any processing based on consent (e.g. newsletter), you can withdraw at any time.

If you believe we are not processing your data correctly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).

9. Cookies

TradersCompanion uses only essential cookies required for authentication and session management (e.g. keeping you logged in). We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when we make changes to our service. Material changes will be communicated via email to registered users at least 14 days before they take effect. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
